Mama Musings #7
Welcome back to Mama Musings#7.
I know that the last post was in July of 2015 (7 months ago) but what can I say ? Mama life happens.
What’s New? Currently, I’m training & eating on a strict plan because on May 7th. I’ll be heading back on stage for a Fitness Model Competition. This time it will be in the Women age 35 & over category and I’m so excited to show people that age is really just a number and that living a healthy lifestyle can begin or continue at any age. This is not my first competition and it probably won’t be my last. I’m starting to realize that being in beauty pageants and fitness competitions is something I really enjoy doing. Even though, I’ve never won anything winning has never been the main goal of why I enter competitions ( it’s all about the journey). For this particular journey, my little sister will also be stepping on stage for her 1st fitness competition. I’m really excited for her and even though my original plan was just to coach her. I know that I really need a kick in the butt with my own fitness goals. So, I signed up too!
Fitness Tip of The Week: Set a goal and a date to reach that goal. You don’t have to sign up for a fitness competition but if your goal is to lose weight, or fit into an outfit. You’ll need to have a due date, so that you can start making changes to your eating/exercising habits to bring you closer to your goal. It’s all about aligning yourself to do what needs to be done within a timeline.
Mama Moments of The Week: I think that every mom would agree that having a sick child is the worse feeling in the world. On Wednesday, we found L.B. in the morning with a pretty high fever. Luckily for me, she only sleeps more when she is sick. Despite, her little body feeling like a hot potato, she was happy like her usual self and ate like a champ. We did end up cuddling all day (which is something she doesn’t usually do) so her being sick was actually a blessing for Mama because I just love cuddling her (when she lets me)!
Food Tip of The Week: Host healthy dinner parties at home with people who you love will allow you the opportunity to feed them a healthy meal. Nowadays, I’m all about leading by example because you have to practice what you preach. So, I invited my brother’s family and my little sister for a taco night. Each hard shell taco had only 7.5 grams of carbs. We served it with lean ground beef and lean ground turkey with all different kinds of raw veggies for toppings. My little nephew and L.B. had lots of fun making a mess and the dog was happy that the kids was accidentally dropping food on the floor.
Fun Foods of The Week: These protein infused waffles should technically be on the healthy food category but since I’ve been so obsessed with eating it (post-workout) almost everyday. It’s officially a healthy & fun food.
I know, I’m suppose to be in “contest prep” mode but every year me and my MIL attends the Lift Jesus Higher convention to spend the day in worship service and to enjoy beautiful Christian music . Our annual tradition includes going out afterwards for a nice dinner together. Since, I can’t remember the last time I went out to eat at a restaurant. I decided that I’m not going to order a salad.
Healthy Foods of The Week: I may not order salads, when I’m dining out at a restaurant. But, I’m so proud to say that salads are now officially a daily staple in my diet as well as my family’s diet. A Mama who eats healthier will naturally feed her family healthier foods. This new salad eating habit started when L.B.’s Godmother generously gave us a Costco membership card for Christmas! We soon discovered that Costco carries a lot of good quality fresh produce, so thanks to L.B.’s Godmother we have all been eating a lot more healthier this year.
During the week I took on a personal challenge to make a Nut-Free, Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free dish for a potluck party. I contribute the dish but didn’t actually go to the party to taste it but based on the reviews and feedback I received. This dish got a thumbs up and so here’s the recipe.
I used a sugar substitute and made a batch of Gluten-Free Cornmeal Muffins too for the potluck but since I was too busy to try it before sending it off. I saved 1 muffin for L.B. to taste test and she gobbled it up pretty fast! She’s usually not a big fan of my muffins, so this was a good sign that I should be making these again. Tip: Muffins freezes very well and can be easily thaw out for a quick healthy snack.
Mama’s Outfit of The Week: I’ve never been a stylish person and I probably never will be and that’s okay! On most days, I’m happy to dress like a regular mom (yoga pants & running shoes) but I’m really trying to put a little more effort (at least once a week) to wear some make-up and let my hair down. This was an outfit picked out by L.B. and Hubby for the Lift Jesus Higher convention. I had originally wanted to wear a much shorter cardigan but Hubby suggested that this look was more “Churchy Style”. LOL
Bible Verse of The Week: I have to admit that I’ve fallen behind on reading the bible for myself this week but reading bible stories to L.B. is something that we never forget to do! We really enjoyed reading The Story of Christmas and The Story of Easter to L.B. (those were the best gifts to us) So, when I found more of these books, I knew I had to buy extra copies for L.B.’s friends.
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
This week went by really fast for me despite being stuck at home for most of the week when L.B. got sick. I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed sharing it, feel free to check back next Sunday for my weekly updates on Mama Musings. Have a wonderfully blessed week !
